Chapter Report (to be printed in The Language Teacher) Guest speaker: Brad Blackstone AKITA - May 2004 - SETS - 2003; Summer English Teachers Seminar- Brad Blackstone. Assisted by the multimedia wizardry of David Weaver, Brad Blackstone described the Summer English Teachers' Seminar (SETS) held in Yokote in August 2003 for 62 Akita secondary school English teachers. The presentation started out with videos and a PowerPoint presentation that included such topics as the program goals, preparation and organization, the innovative methods used for presenting seminar topics, skill areas covered, and participants' reactions. Mark Cunningham gave a demonstration of the Extensive Reading seminar he gave at SETS. In the audience were Japanese teachers who had participated in the program, so that we were able to have a view of the seminar from both sides. This was our first meeting at the new Akita International University campus and, as usual, the attendees for our Akita Chapter meeting were a well balanced mix of both Japanese and foreign English teachers.
